Jonathan Eisen’s major disclosures from 2017

  • Employment
    • I am a Professor at the University of California, Davis and hold an Adjunct Appointment at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the DOE Joint Genome Institute.
    • Previously I worked at The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) in Rockville, MD and had an Adjunct Faculty appointment in the Biology Department at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore MD
  • Corporate disclosures (Advisory Boards, Stock Options, Funding)
    • My wife worked for Mendel Biotechnology many years ago and we still own a small amount of their stock.
    • I am on the Scientific Advisory Board of uBiome and get some stock options as compensation.
    • I am on the Scientific Advisory Board of Indigo Agriculture and get some stock options as compensation.
    • I am a scientific advisor to Phylagen and get some stock options as compensation.
    • I am a scientific advisor to Zymo Research and get paid an annual fee for this.
    • I have performed occasional consulting at an hourly fee for miscellaneous companies through the Guidepoint Global Advisors program.  This totals ~10 hours per year.
  • Research funding
    • I have received money for research from the MARS Corporation (they funded two projects in the lab) and they have filed patents related to one of the projects.
    • I have received grants for my research from DOE, NIH, NSF, USDA, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundtion, The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, DARPA, and the Office of Naval Research.
  • Scientific Publishing
    • I have been involved with the Public Library of Science in multiple ways, and my brother Michael Eisen was a co-founder. I receive no money from them (although in theory I can get compensated for expenses). At PLOS Biology, I was the Academic Editor in Chief  and then the Chair of the Advisory Board and now am just a regular Academic Editor.  I am also an Academic Editor at PLOS Computational Biology and have received for other PLOS Journals.
    • I am on the Editorial Board of a variety of scientific publications including mSystems, PLOS Computational Biology, and bioRxiv.
  • Other financial disclosures
    • I make some money (some $300 last year) from sales of my Evolution textbook.
