Seems like Swine Flu (aka H1N1) has hit Davis. See here.

I am an evolutionary biologist and a Professor at U. C. Davis. (see my lab site here). My research focuses on the origin of novelty (how new processes and functions originate). To study this I focus on sequencing and analyzing genomes of organisms, especially microbes and using phylogenomic analysis View all posts by Jonathan Eisen

I’m going to San Fran in a couple of weeks… eeek!
I generally don’t freak over things like that, since there’s very little one can do without greatly harming one’s quality of life. Locking oneself up somewhere could be a fairly efficient strategy to avoid the virus, but is it really worth it?
My parents, however, tend to prepare for absolutely everything. To them, locking yourself up is definitely worth it; survival, etc. This vacation is gonna be a fun one…
But seriously, what can one do about it on an individual level, reasonably?

So far it seems like there is no evidence that Swine Flu is that bad for individuals compared to the regular flu. The problem with some flu epidemics is that everyone can get it, since people may not have much immunity. So what we still need to know is (1) how bad is the swine flu if you get it and (2) how many people will get it if exposed?
