Visualization of fecal transplants – well – thankfully – of the microbial community data not the actual transplant

I love things like this. A simple Youtube video from Antonio González Peña and Rob Knight’s group. The video shows data from a study of microbial communities and how they respond to a fecal transplant. Simple. Short. And the visualization is nice.

I am an evolutionary biologist and a Professor at U. C. Davis. (see my lab site here). My research focuses on the origin of novelty (how new processes and functions originate). To study this I focus on sequencing and analyzing genomes of organisms, especially microbes and using phylogenomic analysis

  1. That's a great visualisation Jonathan! You are right though, glad it's not the actual visualisation of FMT (althouth having administered around 120 of these to my teenage son, I am not fazed by too much 😉 )

I've had wonderful success with my son who was diagnosed with widespread Crohn's Disease a few days before he turned 13. He is in complete remission, not just visually, but visibly on examination by colonoscopy/endocope as well as histological remission. He is now 16 and has been off medication for 11 months now which is quite remarkable… his doctor is the famous gastroenterologist, Professor Tom Borody. I would love you to read his story when you have a moment at http://www.fecalmicrobiotatransplant.com/2013/07/crohns-disease-fmt.html and part 2 is here http://www.fecalmicrobiotatransplant.com/2013/11/crohns-cure-fecal-transplant.html . Incidentally, the acne that had plagued him prior to the FMT disappeared after 7 days of treatment and has never returned!
